Puerto Vallarta, formerly called Las Peñas de Santa María de Guadalupe, before proclaiming itself as a tourist destination par excellence arose from the need to create a port to transport the silver that came from a nearby mines whose mining city had 20,000 inhabitants. Today only about 600 live with the memory of those great times but its cobblestone streets and tree-lined paths evoke a magical atmosphere. We are going to visit San Sebastián del Oeste.
San Sebastián del Oeste is a municipality and population of the state of Jalisco, Mexico. It is located in the west of the state, in the Western Sierra Region. Its territorial extension is 1400.13 km2. According to the II Count of Population and Housing of 2005, the municipality has 5,626 inhabitants and they are mainly dedicated to the primary sector It is a mining town that had its peak in colonial times, it had up to 20,000 inhabitants; however its population decreased in the 19th century due to the closure of the mines.
